Water butts may be placed anywhere on your property, ideally connecting to each other on level or fairly level ground for best results. They are connected to RAINPOD and the tap(s) of the water butts using either standard garden hose pipe or larger diameter pipe.
RAINPOD is a gravity fed system, so this means that the water level in RAINPOD will be the same as the water butt(s). ie as the water fills RAINPOD , it will flow to the water butt until all levels are the same. It is important to ensure the height of the water butt(s) are slightly higher than the overflow of the rainwater diverter.
If the water butt is raised higher than the rainwater diverter the maximum water level will be at the level of the rainwater diverter (see diagrams below) If the water butt is positioned below the level of the rain water diverter the water butt will overflow (see diagrams below) Â
The same rules apply for water storage tanks.
For linking multiple water butts, simply attach a "T" connector to your hose, then link as many water butts as you desire.
This diagram shows what would happen if the water butt was positioned where the ground level was lower than RAINPODs position. The water butt will fill up and overflow. In this scenario it is recommended to drilling a hole near the top of the water butt and attach an overflow pipe.
This diagram shows what would happen if the water butt was positioned where the ground level was higher than RAINPOD position. The water in the water butt will only rise to the level of the rain water diverter. In this scenario, you may want to consider attaching an extension to the RAINPOD and raising the rainwater diverter.
